Cally Masters Middlesex 2022

AFTER a three-year hiatus the Cally Masters certainly made waves upon their return to the pool as they won the Middlesex County Championship at Barnet Copthall.

It was a barnstorming and decisive victory, with Cally scoring a massive 1,003 points, compared to second-placed Camden Swiss Cottage, who amassed 742 points at last month’s showpiece.

Among the swim stars was keen triathlete Debbie Croydon, who, at 62, entered her first swimming gala and came away with a gold medal in the 50m freestyle and a silver in the 100m freestyle.

Another Cally member who made a spectacular splash was Sara Perry, who struck six golds in the 65-69 age group with victories in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, the 50m and 100m freestyle, the 50m butterfly and the 100m individual medley.

In the 70-74 age group Catherine Cinnamon won five golds, touching home first in the 50m butterfly, the 50m backstroke, the 50m breaststroke, the 50m freestyle and the 100m individual medley, while Jose Centella-Rodriguez, competing in the 55-59 age group, added four more golds, winning the 50m and 100m breaststroke, the 50m butterfly and the 100m individual medley.

The medal count continued to climb, with Steve Lorimer, Jessica Noske-Turner, Gary Butler and Bethan Cash all winning three gold medals each, while Christine Jaeggi won two more golds.

Naz Masraff, Ella Snell, Cassandra Kennedy and Susan Green also won a gold medal each, while Cally won numerous gold medals in the relay events, too.
