Camden Town-Sainsbury-2016

Sainsbury’s in Camden Town

• IT’S rather tricky finding things in the much-changed layout of Sainsbury’s, Camden Town.

Therefore, I am tending to buy some occasional items when I pass them by chance. That was the case this week with a bar of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk chocolate.

A 180g bar sells for £2 – no Nectar discount offered. The 360g bar is exactly twice the size but not exactly twice the price; indeed it’s £5; but attracts a Nectar price of £3.50.

If one has no Nectar card it’s better to buy 2 x 180g bars but, with a Nectar card, the 360g bar is less expensive per “five chunks” of chocolate (if you eat the chocolate at the same rate, of course).

More cost-effective at the moment, that is, because someone at Sainsbury’s Holborn head office spends their day changing the Nectar offers pretty frequently.

In the good old days it was customary that one might pay slightly less for larger amounts or sizes of many products, but no longer.

One has to keep one’s wits about one when shopping at Sainsbury’s these days, as it seems clear the company is trying to take more money from the unwary shopper with its ever-changing prices.
