A LABOUR councillor representing Kilburn has told residents in South Dorset that he will be fighting for every vote down there after being selected as their parliamentary candidate for the general election.

Lloyd Hatton is already setting his sights on the House of Commons after two years as a councillor in Camden.

He is the fifth member of the ruling group at the Town Hall who has now made clear they would like to be an MP.

He said: “I will continue to take my responsibilities as a Camden councillor seriously. Residents will be able to find me at my advice surgery, on the doorstep meeting residents all year round and at the Town Hall taking up local issues. Residents in Kilburn deserve nothing less.”

The Conservatives hold a 17,000 majority in South Dorset but Labour hopefuls believe anything could be possible amid the swinging polls away from Rishi Sunak and the Tories.

Environment chief Councillor Adam Harrison narrowly missed out on becoming the parliamentary selection in Chester, while pensions committee chair Councillor Rishi Madlani came second in the race to be the candidate in Leicester East – like Cllr Hatton both were going for seats in their childhood areas.

Finance supremo Councillor Richard Olszewski has made the shortlist for a couple of constituencies but most recently has been linked to Dudley in the Midlands.

Regeneration chief Councillor Danny Beales has stayed on in his key cabinet role in Camden while campaigning as the selected parliamentary candidate for Uxbridge and South Ruislip – where he was registered to vote as a resident in a by-election last year.

Green councillor Sian Berry stepped down from the council after being chosen to stand in Brighton Pavilion.
