THERE’S no escaping it: the buzz of Christmas is all around. Each morning, children are ripping open another door on their advent calendars, wishing December 25 would arrive that little bit sooner.

There is already a rush in the shops, to get the best food and the gold-wrapped presents.

And the party season is in full swing with cards being left behind the bar and colleagues drinking a little more than they should on a week night.

But the real magic of Christmas, isn’t how much you can consume or what you’re going to get.

This special time of year should never be about me! me! me! In fact, it’s a time when it’s we! we! we! Having reported all year on cases of isolation or hardship, the New Journal is acutely aware that not everybody still feels Christmas – with the pressure to meet an unaffordable price tag – is for them.

Which makes our annual Christmas hamper appeal more special than ever. The mission is so simple: we collect as many donations as possible and use the money to deliver splendid hampers to those who need them.

It’s always been Camden’s best way to show that it cares for its neighbours. If you can, we’d love you to make a donation through our website, and we’ll make sure every single penny goes to making sure the sleigh is loaded as high as possible. We’ll be making our doorstep drops in the week before Christmas and please do nominate anybody who you think is going through a rough time and deserves the magic of a hamper.

We’ll be stopping at pensioners all alone at Christmas and the families on the breadline, where dinner on the big day will be the treat of a ready meal.
