A FAVOURABLE frame difference saw King’s Cross Hurricanes return to the top of the table in Division One of the Chalk Farm Pool League on Monday night after they twice came from behind to beat DOB Dynamos.

Having lost against The Crown last time out it was imperative that Alp Sezer’s side returned to winning ways on their home table at the Hurricane Room.

But matchday nine of the season got off to the worst possible start for the title chasers when Bob Love gave rivals Dynamos the lead. Rupert Ward soon levelled matters, but the Hurricanes found themselves behind again when Paul Cantone pocketed the third frame of the evening to put the visitors 2-1 up.

Quill Cheyne brought the scores level once more, before the Hurricanes opened up some much-needed daylight in the doubles thanks to victories for Nick Phillips and Terry Thackeray and Cheyne and Mark O’Dwyer.

In the end it was captain Sezer who edged his team over the winning line, while Phillips returned to add some gloss to the scoreline in a 6-3 win.

The victory saw King’s Cross Hurricanes leapfrog Hurricane Potters at the top of the table courtesy of a plus-six frame difference.

The two sides are otherwise level on 80 points, and the Potters made it clear they’re in the championship race for the long haul on Monday night when they beat third-placed PJ O’Conners 5-4 on their own table in Wood Green.

Mark Piercey sank the decisive black in the final frame of the evening to ensure that the Potters remain the only side in the league’s two divisions who are still unbeaten – the win seeing them chalk up nine wins out of nine so far.

Meanwhile, fresh from becoming the only team to beat King’s Cross Hurricanes in the league this season, The Crown continued their fine form with a victory away to Northumberland Arms.

John Beaney was coolness personified as he won the decisive frame as The Crown eked out a 5-4 win to stay fourth in the table.
