MORE than 1,400 primary school children poured onto Parliament Hill Fields on Friday to take part in the Camden Schools Sports Association (CSSA) cross-country competition.

Pupils from Gospel Oak Primary School were among the boys and girls who received a loud “hurrah” on Hampstead Heath after being crowned champions.

Brookfield Primary School, in Highgate, were runners-up, while Christ Church, in Hampstead, finished in third place.

Camden mayor Nash Ali showed his support for the annual showpiece as he turned up to present all the trophies and medals.

Active Schools officer Ashley Dunne-Watts, who helped organise the event, said: “It was great to see so many young people from 23 different Camden primary schools come together and engage in physical activity. I’d like to say a huge thanks to the race organisers and Highgate Harriers Athletics Club for supporting the event.”
