Players from Wildwood Rangers celebrate at Hackney Marshes

WILDWOOD Rangers walked into “the Bernabeu of Sunday league football” that is the Hackney Marsh South show pitch, and walked off with silverware.

The triumphant team had plenty of cause to celebrate at the Grafton Pub in Kentish Town after narrowly beating Zingers FC 1-0 in the final of the Camden Sunday League Junior Cup earlier this month.

A “fair but feisty” affair was settled in the dying minutes when Rangers stalwart Rory Tredwell met a Tom Ingham corner with his head. Initially denied by a spectacular goalline clearance, Tredwell acrobatically leapt once more – managing to get on the end of the rebound and knock the ball into the net.

Chairman Max Coral said: “A huge amount of dedication has brought the club to this moment. It is the culmination of hard work from all our players, past and present, and it is an honour to be a part of such a fantastic club.

“We can’t wait for what comes next. We’d like to thank our sponsor, The Grafton, and all our fans for their support over the years.”
