AN “incredible team effort” saw Haverstock’s Year 7 footballers (above) put together a goal-laden winning run in the girls’ Camden and Islington Schools competition on Wednesday.

Held at the artificial pitches in Market Road, Haverstock beat Elizabeth Garrett Anderson 3-0, St Mary Magdalene 1-0 and Highbury Grove 2-1 in a series of thrilling round-robin matches. And while it took the combined efforts of all the players from the secondary school in Chalk Farm to record the hat-trick of wins, goal-getters always step into the limelight.

This time it was Lacey Morahan, who was voted Haverstock’s player of the day after scoring all five of their goals.

In the end it took just one defeat to deny Haverstock the silverware – that honour going to Highbury Fields who beat their Camden rivals 2-0 in what proved to be the decider.

After seeing Haverstock’s heroines receive their runners-up medals, PE teacher Dimitri Mousicos said: “We are all so proud of this team for their determination and passion throughout. Onwards and upwards!”
