CAMDEN will be represented in the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant this weekend, as a group of dancers will take part in the procession in central London.

Twelve members of the Iberian Folk Dance group, which rehearses at the Marchmont Community Centre, will form part of the wider Mandinga Carnival Arts dance group.

They will perform to a variety of songs including Madness’ Our House. All of the group are over 60. Elsa Perez, who is a tutor for the Saturday morning group at Marchmont, is 87.

The Jubilee Pageant will take place on Sunday with 10,000 dancers coming together to “tell the story” of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign.

The Iberian folk dance dozen will be part of the “Let’s celebrate” section. It will start at 2.30pm at Whitehall and finish outside Buckingham Palace.

Ms Perez said: “It’s very exciting for all of us, and it is going to be something really special. There’s been so many rehearsals already, but our group is retired and they go on holiday quite often, so it’s been hard to get everyone together.

“We are all very professional – if you make a mistake you just have to keep going and follow the rest as quickly as possible.”
