IT was the result that nobody saw coming: Spurs stunned Arsenal on Saturday to earn their first-ever Women’s Super League victory over their north London rivals.

The Gunners were made to pay a hefty price for missing a whole host of opportunities at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they squandered the chance to move top of the table.

Martha Thomas scored what proved to be the winner just before the hour mark as she added the finishing touches to one of the best team goals of the season so far.

A 1-0 defeat was the worst possible way Arsenal could sign off for their winter break, especially, of all teams, against Tottenham.

The Gunners are back in action on Sunday, January 14, when they take on Watford at Meadow Park in the Women’s FA Cup.

Looking ahead to 2024, manager Jones Eidevall said: “We need to keep improving the way that we’re playing – to keep pushing for new levels in the way we play. I think that’s going to be the consistent thing.

“We go for a break now, and after that we go to Portugal to start up pre-season training and getting ready. We need to start [on] the 14th of January in the FA Cup.”
