EMERGING boxing talent Jermaine Dhliwayo punched and weaved off the cobwebs on Saturday when he stepped between the ropes for the first time in almost seven months.

The highly-rated St Pancras ABC prospect hasn’t fought since winning the Haringey Box Cup last summer as he’s faced a challenging search to land bouts capable of matching his abilities.

The talented 22-year-old has been training “with complete focus”, and the hard work paid off at the weekend when he returned to the ring to help his former club, Northampton ABC, mark their 70th anniversary.

Boxing at 63kg, Dhliwayo (pictured with St Pancras ABC head coach CJ Hussein) stopped Theo Weaver from Witters ABC in the third and final round with a display that would later earn the Saint a special belt for being the best boxer of the night.

Praising Dhliwayo for recording his third successive stoppage, CJ said: “It was a great performance. Jermaine hasn’t boxed in a while so obviously he had to blow off some cobwebs, but I thought overall he put in a solid display.

“He’s been training really well, and looked sharp sparring some tough opponents. It hasn’t been easy but Jermaine has continued to train with complete focus, and you could see on Saturday that he’s hungry to get more fights under his belt. We’re expecting him back in the ring in February.”
