PJ O’Connors won the Division One Divisional Cup, beating The Crown 5-4
THE chalk dust settled on another scintillating season in Camden and Islington’s premier pool competition on Monday as teams took to the table in one final bid to scoop silverware.
The biggest winners of the night at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross were the Peckwater Playboys, who beat Maddens Misfits 5-2 to win the Liam Tarrant Cup – dubbed the Chalk Farm Pool League’s answer to the FA Cup.
Players from the King’s Cross Hurricanes were also celebrating after they overcame Northumberland Lions 5-3 to add the League Shield to the Division One title they had already pocketed this season. League chairman Shaun Pollard said: “The atmosphere was electric, and the standard on show was a testament to what we have seen from the players in our league all season.

“I want to thank all the players for making it another memorable campaign. I also want to thank the Hurricane Room’s new manager, Sean McCollum, who stepped in at the last minute to referee one of the finals.
“He’s played the game at the highest of levels, so to have him at hand to offer us his support and experience was very much appreciated.”

The search for silverware also saw teams vying for the divisional cups. The competition incorporates a handicap system in a bid to level the playing field – with teams potentially starting with a one- or two-frame advantage depending on how they fared in the first half of the season.
That advantage wasn’t enough to stop PJ O’Connors from winning the Division One Divisional Cup, however, as they beat The Crown 5-4 despite starting two frames behind.
Cock Tavern Aloysius beat Corner Flag to lift the Division Two Divisional Cup
Meanwhile, in the Division Two Divisional Cup final, Cock Tavern Aloysius and Corner Flag started level pegging, and that was as close as the two teams got as Cock Tavern stormed to a resounding 5-1 win.
“The divisional cups have proved a great addition to the league,” commented Pollard.
“They were brought in to give teams who otherwise might not be in with a shout of winning silverware the chance to do just that. The handicap system has really inspired some shock results this season, but in the end, when it came to the finals, the ability to pot under pressure proved vital, with the two winners being sides who finished as runners-up in their divisions.”
