“THIS is like the scariest thing I’ve ever done!” Eurovision hopeful Mae Muller said as she addressed pupils at her former secondary school this morning.

The singer, who is representing the UK in this years’ Eurovision song contest, returned to Acland Burghley to give an assembly today (Monday). She studied at the school between the ages of 11 and 16.

Speaking to year nine students, Ms Muller discussed honing her “craft” as a musician, as well as the pressures of social media and the importance of learning foreign languages.

Ms Muller, 25, left the school in 2013 after completing her GCSEs. She was greeted at the entrance by her old form teacher Stella James before being shown around the school.

She said to the students: “I remember being in year nine and I actually remember really enjoying it. I remember the great thing about going to this school is I feel like it’s quite creative and if you’ve got that creative thing, you’re not told to suppress that, which was really important.”

“I was quite annoying and tried to perform at any given opportunity. At every assembly, I’d be like, ‘let me sing!’ and I was always allowed.”

“I guess the main thing that I would like to say to everyone is: I didn’t have it all figured out for a while… for a few years I worked in a pub, I worked in retail, and I was just trying to figure it out.”
