CF Phoenix won the Camden Sunday League Bill Price Memorial Cup final against Zingers FC

CF PHOENIX are flying high after winning their first piece of silverware in dramatic style at the weekend when they beat Zingers FC in extra-time to capture the Camden Sunday League’s Bill Price Memorial Cup.

Andy Phillips gave Phoenix an early lead at Hackney Marshes when his cross-cum-shot looped over the goalkeeper and crept in at the far post. But Zingers hit back to level the scores late on and send the showpiece final into an additional 30 minutes.

With penalties looming, Phoenix found the winner despite having seen one of their players sent off for two bookable offences.

Anthony Kluge charged down a defender on the edge of the box, blocking his clearance, and the ball fell kindly for Pearce “ice in his veins” Mcdonough.

The striker capped a man-of-the-match performance as he held off the unwanted attentions of a defender before calmly sliding the ball through the keeper’s legs to score the winner.

Revelling in the 2-1 victory, Kluge, who runs the mighty Oranges with Mcdonough, Joe O’Neill, Ryan Jackson, Garo Torossian and Ben Hewitt, said: “This is a massive moment for us because we haven’t managed to win a trophy before. It was a fantastic team effort from everyone.”
