PLANNERS have once again been asked to consider a change of use application for a launderette that shut down after a devastating fire.

The England’s Lane Launderette in Belsize Park had financial problems even before it was gutted by the blaze in 2021 with its owner reporting losses of more than £25,000 a year to the Town Hall.

Camure Ltd argues that attempts to market the unit to other launderette providers, at an annual rent of £60,000, had led to “no serious interest” and that residents can find a similarly priced service “nearby” in Belsize Village.

It is not clear what the landlord would want the new business to be but planning documents reveal viewings have taken place from operators “ranging from yoga studios to organic coffee traders”.
