TOP potter Donnie Gola enjoyed a triumphant day at the snooker table on Sunday when he clinched his first winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Silver Tour.

The 15-year-old ended a “great day” at Woking Snooker Centre by beating first-time finalist Daniel Walter from Portsmouth 2-0.

Gola, who lives in Barnsbury, Islington, and is based at the Mildmay Club in Newington Green, paid tribute to his 19-year-old opponent after the match.

“Daniel’s potting a lot better than the last time I played him,” he said. “It was a good final. I thought I was going to lose the second frame but I managed to win on the black ball.

“It was great day. I was playing really good snooker.”

Gola is the latest player to emerge from Gone2Pot, a children’s snooker club based at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross.

He has earned his place on the Cuestars Tour, which is aimed at giving grassroots snooker players the chance to perfect their game by competing in tournaments across the south of England.

Having been crowned the Bronze Tour champion last season, Gola is now competing in his first campaign in the second tier.

Praising Gola’s ability around the table, coach and Gone2Pot founder John Woods said: “Donnie is a very natural talent. He’s a great potter, a really gutsy player.”
