COACHES and players from the Camden Youth Football League “enjoyed every minute” of their biggest away day on Saturday, despite having to go the extra miles.

The much-loved competition welcomes more than 40 teams from across Camden, Islington and Westminster to Coram’s Fields in Bloomsbury every weekend.

Faced with “an overwhelming need and demand”, organisers from the league have now officially launched fixtures for

Under-7s and Under-8s sides at Ashburnham Community Primary School in Kensington & Chelsea.

“All the players really enjoyed themselves,” said Ash Rahman, who helped oversee the opening round of games on Saturday. “We know it can be difficult for some teams to travel so far, but the league was overwhelmed by the demand and need from clubs looking to play football.

“Coaches and parents know just how difficult it is to find pitches in their respective boroughs, especially ones that are affordable, so they are willing to travel.

“Our number one goal is to give as many young people as possible the chance to enjoy the beautiful game. With that in mind, we are also pleased to announce that from next weekend, October 7, we will be running a new Under-13s league at Coram’s Fields every Saturday. We’re also working hard behind the scenes to bring clubs and parents some more good news in the future – so watch this space!”
