A GROUP of young environmental activists are picketing Sir Keir Starmer’s constituency offices every week with “demands” for bolder climate change policies. Green New Deal Rising (GNDR) returned to Crowndale Road last week for their second “sit-out” at the MP’s base.

They are due to come back every Friday until the Labour Party conference. Members warned Mr Starmer against ditching green policies on the basis of Danny Beales’ narrow defeat in Uxbridge and South Ruislip– blamed on plans to expand the ULEZ to outer boroughs.

“It’s really important to actually look at the numbers because it was really tight, the Tories won by less than 500 votes, and the Green Party, for example… got almost 1,000 votes, which is nearly double what the majority was,” said activist and organiser Venice Van Someren.

“That actually is showing that Labour need to be bolder on Green policy. People are looking for bold green policy to vote for, and if Labour aren’t going to provide that, they’re not going to get the support they think they have.”
