ELECTRIC Ballroom has scored a coup sweeping up the first ever UK headline show from Finneas. The multi-award-winning musician, songwriter and producer, not to mention Billie Eilish’s brother and collaborator, heads to Camden on August 30. I still say their Turning Red boy band soundtrack is some of their best work! Tickets are already sold out so try to find a friend with a spare.

Keep an eye on the Roundhouse website for some incredible workshops for young people hoping to break into music. This month Roundhouse Studios is putting on a VJing workshop (18-25s), On Air: Radio Bootcamp (15-17s) and Recording Vocals: Essential Techniques for Quality Sound (18-25s). The sessions fill up quickly so sign up asap – the radio bootcamp still has places but you’ll have to sign up for the waiting list for the other two.

• Camden’s Tribes have seen a resurgence recently. See how they have evolved at their unplugged in-store at Rough Trade West on Aug 21 where they will be signing exclusive physical copies of new album Rabbit Head.

Formed in the 50s, the Sun Ra Arkestra were led by the enigmatic composer, keyboardist, bandleader, philosopher and poet Sun Ra until his death in 1993. Continuing the legacy, his “Intergalactic” Sun Ra Arkestra still perform today and will play a selection of their classics with Marshall Allen at The Forge on Aug 10-11.

Festival month continues with All Points East at Victoria Park (Aug 18-25) featuring some unmissable headliners including Stormzy, Kehlani, Sampha (Aug 18), Aphex Twin, Bonobo, Fever Ray (Aug 19), The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amyl and the Sniffers (Aug 25); Jungle Erykah Badhu, Raye, Gabriels (Aug 26), Dermot Kennedy, Olivia Dean, SG Lewis (Aug 27) and Haim, Girl In Red, Confidence Man (Aug 28) plus many more acts – see the website for full line-up.

• The New Rock City International Punk Rock festival promises three days of mayhem ft Healthy Junkies, Slackrr, Snake Eyes, She Made Me Do It, Mediaslaves and many more at The Black Heart on Aug 11 -13.

The One Africa Music Fest London “OGs vs GenZ Edition” at Koko on Aug 13 features live performances new and established Afrobeats artists including Wande Coal, 2Baba, 9ice, Duncan Mighty, Omawunmi, MohBad, Not3s, Crayon, Young Jonn, Skales and Nqobile.

• Not strictly a festival, the Four Tet, All Dayer hits Finsbury Park on Aug 12 ft Ela Minus + Anish Kumar + Hagop + Tchaparian + Otik + more, plus a five-hour set from Four Tet.

The Dublin Castle’s rock ‘n roll book club features special guest interviewer Travis Elborough in conversation with both Richard Cabut and Cathi Unsworth to celebrate the launches of their respective new books, Looking For A Kiss – a post-punk novel based in Camden – and Season of the Witch: The Book Of Goth – charting the rise and influence of goth music during the 80s – on Aug 16. Plus a post punk, Gothique and Camden Town centric DJ set from We Got Killers. The r ‘n r book club continues on Aug 17 with Fierce Pandafest ft author Simon Williams talking to Tony Bugbear as part of a Fierce Panda label night presentation marking the paperback release of Williams’ 2022 book Pandamonium! How Not To Run A Record Label charting the rise of Fierce Panda plus music from The Manatees, Sasha Assad and Enjoyable Listens + DJ Sue.

• Known for their swaggering live rock ‘n roll sets, The Struts promise new material on their Remember The Name tour, which stops at The Forum on Aug 12. Then, on Aug 23, The Forum switches to reggaeton from chart-topping hits from award-winning Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Carlos Reyes aka Farruko.

Soho music studio The Thin White Duke has an innovative approach to studio time, which might just appeal to up-and-coming musicians. For a relatively modest monthly membership, artists get access to four hours a week of studio time and the services of Abbey Road trained engineer Max Walker – with a free trial on offer at the moment, what’s not to like?

• Experience electrifying LA gospel from Jimetta Rose & The Voices of Creation at Jazz Café on Aug 13.

Son Rompe Pera play traditional Mexican and Colombian rhythms with a punk twist – see them at Jazz Café on Aug 16. Jamaican reggae and dancehall star Johnny Osbourne brings The Upper Cut Band to Jazz Café on Aug 22.

• Vermont Trio Thus Love have announced a second date at the 100 Club, having already sold out Aug 22 (support from Mary In the Junkyard). The band, who created their music studio from scratch and design and produce their own merch, play 100 Club on Aug 23 with support from Man/Woman/Chainsaw.
