THE indoor festival season is under way with two notable events coming up – each with a very different flavour. First, Roundhouse’s In The Round festival returns for its seventh year with an intriguing line-up of new and established artists. Running between April 18 and 27, artists performing on the venue’s circular stage include Tirzah, Vashti Bunyan, Joe Armon-Jones, Jlin, Paraorchestra with Brett Anderson, Nadine Shah, Charles Hazlewood + Gwenno, Lucy Rose, Lonnie Holley & Matana Roberts and Samara Joy plus many more. There will also be a special 80th birthday tribute to Joni Mitchell featuring performances from Emeli Sandé, Jesca Hoop, Sam Amidon, Kate Stables (This Is The Kit) and hosted by Cerys Matthews.

La Linea – The London Latin Music Festival – brings together a specially curated mix of Latin artists to venues across London from April 12-22. Shows include Grammy award-winning Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lila Downs + Mariachi Las Adelitas UK, Barbican (April 12); Chilean MC, singer, poet and lyricist Ana Tijoux + Colombian folk singer Montañera, Village Underground (April 13); Nu-Cumbia queen La Yegros + Imperio Bamba + Carlitos Nino (Arriba la Cumbia), Jazz Café (April 16); and a special performance from Colombian maestro Fruko, who has recorded more than 800 albums in his long history and is globally recognised for his success with Fruko y Sus Tesos – Fruko & The Bonita House Band + Tim Garcia, Jazz Café (April 19).

• Warming up for his Download Festival appearance, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello plays Electric Ballroom on June 13.

Abbey Road Studios have announced Grammy-nominated musician Jordan Rakei at their first ever artist-in-residence where he will be able to make use of the famed studio facilities, benefit from a dedicated writing room and participate in outreach programmes and creative collaborations with the aim of providing a platform for other artists.

• Barbican has announced a season of film music with screenings accompanied by live orchestral performances, enjoy concert renditions of cult cinematic soundtracks and explore a groundbreaking documentary featuring Brian Eno and promising “mind-bending generative soundtracks” whatever that may mean! Running from March to July, symphonic orchestras, smaller ensembles and more will be performing jazz, classical and much more in-between as they bring the scores of the big screen to life. Stockport teenage four-piece The Rolling People play Water Rats on April 5.

• Nineties musicians Dodgy – responsible for such earworms as Staying Out For The Summer and Good Enough – and Chris Helme (The Seahorses), play Islington Academy on April 5.

Venezuelan funk, soul, reggae, rock band Rawayana play Electric Ballroom on April 5 in support of latest album Quién trae las cornetas?

• Italy’s Eurovision superstar Mahmood brings his soothing tones to Kentish Town Forum on April 7.

Nu-gen artist Cassyette stops off at Scala on April 11 ahead of the release of her debut album The World F***ing Sucks.
