Roundhouse Rising returns this month in collaboration with BBC Introducing Live with a packed long weekend of musical performances, panels and workshops – a must for new and emerging artists hoping to break into the music industry.

The three-day festival, which takes place from Oct 12-14, features performances from new musicians and the venue’s latest intake of resident artists including the likes of Amy Gadiaga, Naima Adams, Faker Villain, Hohnen Ford, Tendertwin and Gigi Williams plus many more, while the daytime panels programme will be hosted by BBC presenters including DJ Target, Jess Iszatt, Angelle Joseph, Jasmine Takhar, Abbie McCarthy and Tom Robinson.

There will be sessions on being an independent artist, how BBC introducing can help artists, how to smash a live set, the art of song, how to get national pick up and a special How We Made It discussion with Sam Ryder, Maisie Peters and Piers from Rudimental.

Key industry names will also be on hand to listen to emerging artists’ music in genre themed feedback sessions and there will be a Radio 1XTRA open mic session for hip-hop, grime, dancehall, afrobeat and R&B artists, with a possible chance to have their radio friendly performances played on national radio. Sounds invaluable for those looking to break into the biz. https://www.roundhouse.org.uk/series/roundhouse-rising-festival

We met Galway band The Clockworks after their electric performance opening Abbey Road’s Music Photography Awards. The band, now based in Islington, have just teamed up with Bernard Butler as part of its lock-in series (where Bernard does not know what band or track he will be working on) to produce new single Mayday Mayday, recorded at Abbey With Road. The collab was so successful that Butler went on to produce the band’s debut album Exit Strategy (out Nov 10). Frontman James McGregor is very watchable too. Check out Abbey Road’s website for the list of Music Photography Awards winners – incredible talent from some very humble people – and the self-lighting awards are something to behold. Long may these people be recognised for the work they do capturing iconic moments in music.

• Baxter Dury has a knack for bringing the gallic feel to his stripped-down tales of life. His monotonous spoken word tracks, usually elevated by female vocals, smash slices of English life against nostalgic dreamy instrumentals – see him at The Roundhouse on Oct 18. Support from Oneda.

• The Pretenders play a sold-out, intimate show at Electric Ballroom on Oct 19.

• The rise in club nights paying homage to Middle Eastern popular music is just one example of multiculturalism at its finest. Hishek Bishek celebrates the best from the region – Iraqui and Lebanese dancefloor hits, Syrian and Palestinian dabke, Egyptian beats and more, you can’t help but dance. The next night is at The Garage tomorrow (Oct 7).

• With her debut single out now, Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry launches her solo career at Koko on Oct 9.

• Comedy double act Dick and Dom hit Club De Fromage with a promised raucous DJ set at Islington Academy on Oct 14. Expect the usual Fromage capers with a crazy stage show, bizarre character, hula, dance-offs, confetti, pop hits and more.
