VIVIANNE Miedema says she can finally enjoy being back out on the pitch again after scoring her first goal since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to help Arsenal earn a victory at Liverpool in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.

The Netherlands forward saw the back of the net ripple for the first time since December 2022 as she rifled home a thunderous effort from all of 20 yards at Prenton Park via a deflection off Liverpool centre-back Gemma Bonner.

Caitlin Foord was also on target as the Gunners secured a 2-0 win to ensure manager Jonas Eidevall marked his 100th game in charge – and his 41st birthday – in style. “It’s just a bit of a relief, to be honest,” revealed Miedema after the final whistle.

“I’m known as being a goalscorer. I do play as a 10 right now, so it’s a different position, but I think once that first one goes in, that pressure is fully gone.

“You can just start enjoying being out there again, and you can just start enjoying playing. I’m just really, really happy that it went in today and we can just move on from that one.”

The result leaves Arsenal third in the WSL table, level on points with Manchester City, and three points behind leaders Chelsea.
