EMMA Hayes has described her new job as the coach of the United States women’s national team as “a dream come true”.

Hayes, who grew up on the Curnock Street Estate in Camden Town, will remain in charge of Chelsea until the end of the season before starting her new role in the summer ahead of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

“This is a huge honour to be given the opportunity to coach the most incredible team in world football history,” Hayes said. “I’ve dreamed about coaching the USA for a long time, so to get this opportunity is a dream come true.”

A statement from US Soccer revealed Hayes will become the highest paid women’s football coach in the world.

Hayes admitted it would be a fairytale end to her Chelsea career to lift the Women’s Champions League for the first time at the end of the season.

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s match away to Real Madrid last night (Wednesday), she said: “It would be a fairytale to win it, of course. But I didn’t grow up liking fairytales – my sister did. I would love nothing more than to be in a winning position with this team.”
