SMOKERS could cover a large chunk of their energy bills for a year by giving up.

The cost of tobacco or cigarettes is more than £2,000 a year. Breathe is a free stop smoking service for those living or working in Camden and Islington. It offers a 12-week programme aimed at building confidence and self-belief.

The council’s health chief Cllr Anna Wright said: “Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for you and your family’s health. Not only can you reduce your risk of cancer, heart, and lung disease, but you can protect those around you, improve your fitness and breathing and help save you money.

Cllr Anna Wright

“The average smoker can save over £2,000 a year just by quitting. I’d encourage anyone who is thinking of stopping smoking to speak to one of our fully trained Breathe stop smoking specialists who can offer expert advice and support online, by phone and in person.”

Smokers can contact Breathe directly on 020 3633 2609, text QUIT to 66777 or email info@breathestop smoking.org or visit www.breathestop smoking.org for more information.
