• WE have inflated expectations of our London mayor as your editorial noted, (The mayoral election: a ballot on what we don’t want, Comment, April 25).

The real power lies with the unelected council officers. But vote we should today, May 2, if only at some point to change this situation.

We need effective mayors and productive councillors not fake news spin interns focused on expenses-supported, social media (and palace garden party status) opportunities.

For instance, if people are paying to be presented with their citizenship by the Camden ceremonial mayor then they shouldn’t have make do with a substitute.

Perhaps our ceremonial mayors should be encouraged to donate their expenses to the mayor’s charity instead of buying fancy outfits and catered events for a chosen few.

Forward the revolution a step and a vote at a time.
