IT doesn’t matter who is standing in the opposite corner come Saturday, because “they are going down”.

That’s the chilling warning St Pancras ABC’s capital king Jermaine Dhliwayo sent out this week after reaching the final of the England Boxing National Amateur Championships, formerly known as the ABAs.

For the record, awaiting Dhliwayo in the Under-60kg title-decider is Leigh Boxing’s Will Hewitt. But the London champion doesn’t lose any energy worrying about who he will be sharing the ring with.

“I could be fighting Goliath, it doesn’t matter,” roared Dhliwayo ahead of the bout in Derby this weekend. “All I know is, he’s going down.

“Saturday is the biggest moment of my life up until now, and I’m ready. All I can see is my hand being raised, and crying when I win.”

Dhliwayo booked his date with destiny by first winning the London title. And then, at the weekend, he was back winning again, this time on an even bigger stage as he gained a unanimous victory over Ryan Jones from Worcester City ABC in the quarter-finals of the Nationals, before beating Stockbridge ABC’s Sam Norris via a 4-1 split-decision in the semi-finals.

After seeing his young charge dominate his bouts at the Barnsley Metrodome, Saints head coach CJ Hussein said: “Jermaine has been training hard for this moment, he’s dedicated himself to it. He lost in the semi-finals of the Nationals last year, and he’s ready to put that wrong right.”
