Residents bring their objections to Judd Street

DOZENS of objections to a planning application were hand-delivered to Camden’s top brass last Thursday.

Braving the pouring rain, nine residents from the Alexandra and Ainsworth estate delivered 68 letters containing objections on the proposed overhaul of the estate’s heating system to the Town Hall.

The council’s plans to upgrade the failing communal heating propose to remove the heating coils in the walls, install radiators, add internal and external pipe work and double glazing while still using the same gas boilers.

Residents fear this would ruin the exterior and interior of their celebrated Grade II*-listed estate, as well as cause disruption and does not offer a greener alternative.

Across the four planning applications, there have been 1,009 objections registered so far.

The Rowley Way tenants and residents’ association has collected 395 signatures on its petition against the proposals.

Housing chief Councillor Meric Apak said the scheme “preserves the integrity of the original design” which is complex, and that the current system is “not fit for purpose”.

He added: “We have been working closely with residents to develop plans – we invited residents to view and state their preference of the type of new system and we have gathered feedback from estate-wide surveys.”
