The Hurricane Potters
IF the opening round of fixtures in 2023 is anything to go by, the Chalk Farm Pool League is going to be cram-packed with topsy-turvy twisters for the remainder of the season.
King’s Cross Hurricanes have been knocked off the Division One summit after losing 5-4 away to The Crown on Monday night following a nail-biting affair in Holloway.
The Hurricanes looked to be on course to extend their lead at the top of the table after wins for Shaz Khan, Quill Cheyne and Peter Berrie saw them storm into a 3-1 lead.
But The Crown battled back to seal what seemed an unlikely victory, with Wayne Conlon keeping his cool to sink the decisive black in the final frame of the evening.
At the same time another nine-frame thriller was being played out at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross.
Like their title rivals, the Hurricane Potters found themselves 3-1 up and cruising thanks to wins for John Hosein, Sean McCollum and Ben Spurling. But that lead didn’t last as King’s Cross Gunners played their part in a scintillating showcase of top-notch pool.
With the contest tied at 4-4 going into the final frame of the night, Tony Dipace called upon all his experience to chalk up the win – sending the Potters above King’s Cross Hurricanes by a point.
