IT was the titanic trophy tussle that supporters were hoping for – albeit a month earlier than expected.

King’s Cross Hurricanes (above) and Hurricane Potters played out a thrilling final in the Liam Tarrant Cup – dubbed the Chalk Farm Pool League’s answer to the FA Cup. The silverware showdown, fittingly held at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross, had originally been pencilled in for August. But with players preparing for international tournaments – and a few well-earned summer holidays booked up to boot – the first-to-five-frames battle on the green baize instead took place on Monday night.

And it didn’t disappoint as wins for Mark Piercey and Sean McCollum saw the Potters race into a 2-0 lead.

Mark O’Dwyer pulled a frame back for King’s Cross, but John Hosein then kept his cool to restore the Potters’ two-frame advantage.

However, having already showed their mettle in winning the Division One title this season, King’s Cross simply don’t know when they are beaten.

And Alp Sezer’s side were resolute once more as they won all the doubles matches, before Quill Cheyne pulled off two remarkable pots to seal a 5-3 victory – and with it a memorable league and cup double.
