A TUBE passenger was dragged 20 metres along a platform after their coat got stuck in the door.

The terrifying ordeal, at around 11pm on April 20, is the focus on an investigation by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB).

“The passenger fell onto the platform during the accident and sustained minor injuries,” a statement from RAIB said, announcing its probe into “trap and drags” on the Underground. “The train did not stop and continued on its journey.”

The RAIB is also investigating how another passenger was dragged down the platform at Archway station after their coat got stuck in the doors on February 18 at 3.50pm. “The passenger and their companion both fell to the ground during the accident, with the passenger sustaining a serious injury. The train stopped after it had travelled for about 20 metres.”

RAIB has in the past raised concerns about London Underground door control systems not being capable of detecting thin objects.

It investigated three trap and drags in north London last year, including one passenger who had to run down the platform nine metres as the train pulled away with their hand stuck in the doors.

Back in 2018 a woman was dragged into the tunnel at Notting Hill after her bag got stuck in tube doors.

RAIB said: “We will publish our findings, including any recommendations to improve safety, at the conclusion of our investigation.”
