I HEAR a documentary film about the pioneers of the original Pride movement has been making waves in the US. Legendary Children of ’72 – featuring the likes of Peter Tatchell, activist and former Camden councillor Angela Mason, It’s a Sin actor Nathanial Hall and Primrose Hill’s Lanah P – was screened this week to great acclaim in Palm Springs, California, at the LGBT+ Film Festival.

Lanah, who sings the Lesbianated soundtrack in the film, told me that it was an honour to be associated with the “valuable group of humans” in Rob Falconer’s film.

“It educates, disturbs and celebrates the lives of those that fought for his generation’s kings and queens to wear their crowns with pride today,” she said.

“It shows that queer liberation didn’t start with Kylie Minogue gold lamé hot pants from Oxfam or Lady Gaga’s poker face, great allies of the LGBTQIA community as they are.”

She said it could be valuable for the Gen Z generation some of whom “don’t know they are even born yet taking so much for granted and enjoying the gains from those that took most of the pain”, adding: “And I don’t think anyone took more punches than my hero Peter Tatchell, if it was as up to me he’d be beatified today.

“The fight is still on, folks, because nobody is free until we are all free in this mental matrix called life on this spinning rock in space, innit.”
