OZ-BOUND Lily Mills was buzzing with excitement this week as she prepared to book her flights ahead of the Australian Open Person with Intellectual Impairment Championships, which will be held in Melbourne in January.

The 23-year-old Special Olympics athlete, who lives in Drayton Park, Highbury, has been fundraising in the hope of reaching a £9,000 target to take part in the grand slam showpiece.

On going to press, generous backers had helped the tennis ace raise just over £2,700 – which is almost enough to buy plane tickets for Lily and her mum Tallulah, who is Lily’s full-time carer.

With additional accommodation, travel and training costs still to cover, Tallulah said: “We really want to thank everyone who has donated money so far, it really means a lot.

“Anything big or small would be really appreciated to help Lily fulfil her dream. Tennis has given her so much, it’s so important to her.”
