The scene in Chalk Farm Road

A MAN was taken to hospital after a large tree branch crashed down in Chalk Farm, writes Frankie Lister-Fell.

The pedestrian suffered minor injuries after being hit in Chalk Farm Road last Wednesday afternoon.

Onlooker Marco Zijdel, a chef at Bird, said: “All of a sudden I see loads of people running that way and I saw that he was underneath the tree.

“He didn’t seem like he was super injured but it did look like he was in pain. I was not expecting to see that at work today.”

He said that a woman walking past said she was a medical professional and helped the man while people called for an ambulance.

The man was also with his dog, who sat on his lap while he remained under the branch, Mr Zijdel said.

Camden Council, which is responsible for the trees on the road, said: “We responded to this incident alongside the emergency services to help the person involved and make the surrounding area safe.

“We would like to wish the person involved a full and quick recovery.”

Its spokesperson added: “We are currently reviewing this incident. We can confirm that the tree was not diseased or dead.”
