James Bowsher reunited with Pluto

A SAUSAGE dog which was thought to be stolen from the streets of King’s Cross has been reunited with its owners after a nauseating three days away from home.

Pluto, a six-year-old chocolate Dachshund with floppy ears, was waiting outside his front door in Argyle Walk before going on a walk on Saturday.

One of its owners nipped back inside to get his collar but when they came out again, to the family’s horror, their beloved pooch was nowhere to be found.

“It was so unlike him,” owner James Bowsher said. “We usually walk him without the collar. He’s normally super well-behaved. We were on the phone with the police, with Dog Lost who are so great. They are a wonderful organisation and they walk you through the steps you need to take. They do it for free.”

Mr Bowsher, a film producer who lives with his wife Hasnaa, mother-in-law and their dogs and cat, added: “We spent two days solidly putting hundreds of flyers in all the parks around us and lamp posts, up to Gray’s Inn Road, and screaming for Pluto. We were terrified of him being stolen.”

He had read horror stories online of what can happen to stolen dogs, including being used for breeding in puppy mills and in the “worst-case scenario” dog-fighting competitions.

They were unable to sleep without knowing what had happened to Pluto, said Mr Bowsher.

He added: “Everyone in the community was super lovely. Dogs bring people together. We went to every member of society and asked them if they had seen Pluto. From people who are homeless to someone who is well-off: everyone said they’ll help us find our dog.”

On Monday, they got a call from a vet in Wanstead – about 10 miles away in east London – saying that Pluto had been handed in. “

We don’t know how he managed to find himself there,” Mr Bowsher said.

“I wonder if he bolted. It was all a bit of a haze, I was so happy to have him back we just grabbed him and left. It was honestly such a huge relief. He was so happy to be home. I think he was a bit anxious at first and was scared at having been on such a big journey.”

Pluto is now back to his usual self, chilling at home, sleeping in beds and playing with their cat called Gato.
