WHILE the perhaps lesser known Vine Street and Coventry Street appear among the original squares on a Monopoly board, the famous London thoroughfare of Tottenham Court Road was never included.

Nonetheless, this is the location chosen for a new live entertainment centre based around the ruthless board game in which players try to bankrupt their friends with exorbitant rent demands.

In the latest indication that businesses think people will in future want to use high streets as a place to play as much as shop, the centre has been lined up for the premises formerly occupied by a branch of the Paperchase stationery chain.

Camden Council will decide on Tuesday whether the new centre – a partnership between the game’s makers, Hasbro, and theatre producers Selladoor Worldwide, can have an alcohol licence, running until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Charlotte Street Association has called for conditions to be applied to ensure nearby residents are not disturbed.

The application says that the “immersive experience” will see players take on live challenges to “move along the Monopoly board and buy property”.

Market shops in Camden Town are being turned into a Judge Dredd game experience this year.
