THE Camden New Journal was handed a highly commended certificate in the “brand of the year” category at the Regional Press Awards on Tuesday.

On our birthday, we have in the past asked for readers’ donations to help pay for good hands-on journalism, so did not feel we could justify the £325-per-seat dinner tickets. A

ll of the money we raise from advertising, sponsorship and events goes back in to paying the cost of Camden having a strong campaigning, local paper. But it was nice to hear the newspaper get a special mention over the champagne glasses.

Editor Richard Osley said: “This is another testament to the hard work by everybody at our papers – and of course the readers who keep us on our toes!”
