Dac up high after finishing his new work

A NEW set of eyes gaze out across Kentish Town this week – after a world-renowned muralist put the finishing touches to a giant new piece of public art/

Finn Dac, who has painted site-specific art works in public spaces across the world, finished the new piece on the upper floors of the Everlasting Castings shop  in Kentish Town Road.

His work replaces a 20-year-old work by the NW5 artist Panik.

Owner Tammy Peters, had known the artist – who signs his name Dac – since the 1990s and had long harboured a wish to commission him.

“The old piece was looking tatty. I have known Finn for 30 years and had always wanted him to paint the building,” she said.

Ms Peters, who runs a picture framing company and also makes casts of children’s hands and feet, said: “It is a gift for Kentish Town. It is good for the area. “It is very beautiful, and my job as a framer is all about making things look more beautiful, so it fits.”

Dac has been commissioned to create murals across the world. In the USA, he has worked in Los Angeles, New York and Miami, while he has taken on work in Colombia, Tahiti, Australia and Brazil too.

He told the New Journal: “The model is a singer from Chalk Farm called Asami Zdrenka. Her face and her looks suited the work I do and because she lives locally, I felt it worked well.”

He added: “My narrative is I want to beautify the urban landscape – I call it urban aesthetics.”
