THE Mayor of Camden has cancelled the next full council meeting – weeks after she banned the public from attending the last one.
Councillors have been given a list of reasons why Nazma Rahman has decided the next all-member meeting will not go-ahead.
“In coming to this decision, she has taken into account that there are no substantive decisions needing to be taken at the meeting,” a message from officers said, adding that it was in the pre-election period “which presents challenges around the business it can properly undertake without breaching the pre-election rules.”
London goes to the polls on May 2 to choose the next mayor and assembly members, while voters in Frognal & Fitzjohns ward will take part in a council by-election (see above). Cllr Rahman “also had in mind the significant cost of holding a council meeting (including security costs) against the lack of substantial business.”
Last month, she stopped the public from observing the meeting on the basis that a previous meeting had been disrupted by Gaza demonstrators who want the council to debate calls for a ceasefire.
