AFTER taking the difficult decision to step down as manager, Gospel Oak FC gaffer Jordy Emmanuel was able to inspire a special send-off from his players on Sunday against top-of-the-table Mill Hill Club de Futbol.

Having picked up just one point from their opening four games in Division One of the Barnet Sunday League, the underdogs wouldn’t have been much fancied to improve their fortunes against a side boasting maximum points, and averaging almost four goals per victory.

But with emotions running high, it was Gospel Oak who went goal crazy as strikes from Jed Alberts, Remon Reid-Herry and Redon Abazi sealed a 3-0 win at the New River Sport and Fitness pitches in Tottenham.

Deciding that he has “taken the team as far as he can”, former William Ellis schoolboy Emmanuel said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to manage this team. Leaving is hard but a new beginning is now upon us.

“The only way I wanted to leave my managerial post was with a win. I wish the lads good luck for the rest of the season, but if they continue playing like they did against Mill Hill they won’t need it. The boys proved they’ve got mettle.”

Life without Emmanuel starts for Gospel Oak this Sunday when they play an AC Finchley side who are bottom of the table.
