DETECTIVES searching for a burglar who was caught red-handed on CCTV have released an image of the suspect they are hunting and are asking people in Kentish Town if they recognise the man.

Last week the New Journal reported how Kentish Town mother Victoria Newman had watched on CCTV her family home being burgled while she was on an emotional trip to buy a headstone for the grave of her stillborn son.

Despite footage being handed over to police, and evidence that one of five stolen iPads was being used just two streets away, no one has been apprehended.

The burglar also made off with four mobile phones and over £3,000 worth of jewellery.

Officers are currently scouring their records for similar cases – and hope by finding incidents that may be linked, they can catch the perpetrator believed to be behind a number of break-ins. It is thought the same man attempted to burglar a neighbouring property two days later, and on Friday the New Journal received a report from another homeowner nearby who said they had disturbed a man acting suspiciously in their front garden.

The Met Police told the New Journal that the image of the man – captured on the doorbell camera of the householder – had been given to every officer in the borough and that teams on patrol were actively looking for the suspect.

Officers working on the case said a forensics team had searched the property for clues and were looking for DNA matches. Detective Constable Aaron Ross added: “It is our goal to identify him as soon as possible and by circulating him within the Met, officers who have day-to-day dealings with the public will have a better chance at identifying him sooner.”
