DETECTIVES investigating a New Year’s Eve stab death have named 16-year-old Harry Pitman as the victim.

Police opened a murder investigation after the teenager was pronounced dead on Primrose Hill shortly before midnight. The teenager had been among a large crowd getting ready to watch fireworks explode across London to mark the arrival of 2024.

Officers administered first aid in the park before London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance paramedics arrived, but he could not be saved.

Police said his family were being supported by specialist officers.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in police custody.

Extensive police cordons remain in place today (New Year’s Day) as officers conduct forensic examinations of the scene and the surrounding area.

A crowd had gathered on the hill – the summit offers famous views across London as fireworks light up the city after the New Year bongs – and detectives want witnesses to come forward, including those who may have mobile phone footage.

Anybody who can help can call 101.
