THE Met say they have a “robust policing plan” ready to thwart any potential terrorist attacks on the Emirates Stadium tonight (Tuesday).

The BBC among other outlets have reported that a “pro-IS channel had called for violent attacks and featured images of the Emirates Stadium in London”.

The channel “has published multiple posters calling for attacks at stadiums hosting quarter-final ties on Tuesday and Wednesday”, the reports had added.

A spokesman for European football’s governing body said Uefa was “aware of alleged terrorist threats made towards this week’s Uefa Champions League matches” but that the game could still go ahead.

The Met’s deputy assistant commissioner Ade Adelekan, who is overseeing policing in the capital tonight, said: “We’re aware of online and media reports in relation to calls to target matches across Europe and here in London.

“However, I want to reassure the public that we have a robust policing plan in place for tonight’s match and we continue to work closely alongside the club’s security team to ensure that the match passes peacefully.”

She said that the UK terrorism threat level “remained ‘substantial’ meaning an attack is likely”, adding: “As ever, we ask the public to remain vigilant, and if they see any that doesn’t look or feel right, then report it to police or security staff.”
