Chris Miles leads the Slatterys trophy-winning celebrations

SLATTERYS’ first-ever silverware success in the Chalk Farm Pool League sparked wild scenes of celebration on Tuesday night, with one player, Chris Miles, even sprawling across the green baize to bask in a brilliant win.

Boasting home advantage, the Camden Town-based side came from a frame down to topple Islington rivals Cousins Zombies 5-4 after winning a nail-biting decider in the final of the Division Two Divisional Cup.

Jacob Elliott had helped the Zombies shuffle into a 1-0 lead, but wins for Slatterys skipper Bob Martin and Neil Hegarty turned the game around.

The Zombies again bit back to level the scores, though, courtesy of some fine potting under pressure from Vlad Levitsky.

The cup contest looked all but over when Slatterys won the opening two doubles matches of the night to sail into a 4-2 lead.

However, the Zombies came back from the dead to level the game at 4-4 – and send the teams into a final-frame decider.

That’s where the ever-reliable Steve Knowles kept his cool, winning the race to sink the black against Jamie Pullar to earn Slatterys their memorable moment of glory.

“To win our first ever cup is fantastic. All the players performed brilliantly and really handled the pressure – especially as the Zombies kept biting back at us,” said team captain Bob.

“We would all like to dedicate this victory to one of our former players, John Spencer, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago.”

Meanwhile, in the Division One Divisional Cup final, King’s Cross Hurricanes beat Peckwater Playboys 5-4 to complete an outstanding treble, adding the silverware to the Division One title and the Liam Tarrant Cup that they had already pocketed.
