Aishah Omar won the ladies’ singles title by beating Rita Slapna in the final

A COMBINATION of precise potting and the Covid pandemic has seen Aishah Omar become the longest-serving ladies’ singles champion in Chalk Farm Pool League history.

Having won the title back in 2019, Aishah successfully navigated her way back into the final the following season, which was due to be played in the summer of 2020 before being postponed due to Covid.

That silverware showpiece finally took place at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross on Sunday where Aishah, who plays for King’s Cross Gunners, was triumphant at the table once more – beating King’s Cross Invader Rita Slapna 3-1.

It means that, one way or another, the 30-year-old potter, who is now taking a brief break from pool to focus on work commitments, will officially have held on to the prestigious accolade for four years by the time the 2023 final takes place next summer.

“It was a challenging match and Rita was a great opponent,” said Aishah, who lives in Kentish Town. “I’m really pleased that I managed to bring home the trophy for King’s Cross Gunners.”

League chairman Shaun Pollard, who refereed the final, added: “The standard of pool on show was outstanding, especially when you consider just how long both these players have had to wait to play this final.

Aishah hasn’t entered the women’s competition this season so come June there will be a new name etched on the winners’ trophy.”
