ANTI-HS2 activists who dug a network of tunnels under Euston station have been sentenced following a retrial.

Six environmentalist, who lived in the tunnels for a month in 2020, had been acquitted of charges of aggravated trespass on a legal technicality. But the Crown Prosecution Service went to the High Court demanding a retrial.

Dan Hooper, Isla Sandford and Juliett Stevenson-Clarke pleaded guilty, while Scott Breen, Lachlan Sandford and Dr Larch Maxey pleaded not guilty. They were each given suspended sentences of one and three months.

They had been protesting against the axing of ancient trees around Euston and all along the proposed new railway line.

The trees have been cut down but work has now been paused around the station after the High Speed 2 became mired in escalating costs.

There has been suggestions that the route may now never reach Euston at all.
