Residents are against Camden’s traffic scheme proposals for Frognal

Thursday, 28th March

• CAMDEN is proposing to make parts of Frognal inaccessible to road use for certain periods in the mornings and afternoon.

The scheme restricts vehicles from using Kidderpore Avenue, Kidderpore Gardens and Ferncroft Avenue between 7.45am and 9am and 3pm and 4.15pm, Monday to Friday, during school terms with some small exemptions for residents.

Frognal residents have resoundingly rejected the council’s proposal, saying it is unworkable, and would increase traffic. They have proposed their own solution. Interestingly Camden has entitled its proposal “Healthy Streets” and says it is in the interest of schools, their students and residents.

However there will be huge traffic jams in surrounding roads with additional fumes. This is in addition to the traffic that intentionally bypasses the Finchley 20mph limit by going onto side roads in Frognal.

The proposed changes will see tradespeople reluctant to make visits, taxis will be unavailable at those times, and carers’ visits will be impeded.

Further, it is not clear that this proposal has the support of nearby schools. And many residents, when asked, did not know about the changes and had not received any consultation documents from Camden.

The whole process seems to have been shambolic and not well thought out from start to finish. This proposal should be withdrawn.
