BOXING fans were treated to “a magical night in Marylebone” on Thursday when St Pancras ABC hosted a glitzy dinner show in front of a packed-out crowd at the Nobu Hotel.

Some 400 supporters of the Kentish Town-based gym flocked to the lavish venue in Portman Square to watch an exciting 13-bout programme featuring some of the best young boxers from across the capital.

Among the big winners wearing Saints’ colours was Pasquale Barone, who was named best home boxer of the night after gaining an impressive points victory over Newport ABC’s Liam Noonan following an entertaining bout fought at 55kg.

Another St Pancras star singled out for praise was Luke Williams. Boxing at 60kg the talented youngster stopped Stonebridge ABC’s Ibraheem Hussain in the second round of their scheduled three-round contest.

Corey Samuels, who stepped between the ropes at 62kg, also boxed well as he gained a points win over Ayaan Latif from Dennis & Dyer Boxing Academy.

“It was a magical night of boxing,” said Saints’ head coach CJ Hussein.

“It went really, really well. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the boxing on show was exceptional.

“We only host one dinner show a season – it’s important for bringing in vital funds that help keep us going throughout the year. Without it, and all the support we receive on the night, we wouldn’t be able to keep up the high standards we always set for ourselves and our boxers.

“I want to thank all our supporters and our corporate members for helping to make the show such a success. I also want to thank all my staff and coaches at the club for all of their help on the night, and the hard work that they put in behind the scenes.”

The action didn’t stop there. On Saturday it was members from Islington Boxing Club in Upper Holloway celebrating after seeing three of their boxers strike gold at the London Boxing Youth & Intermediate Championships.

Elliot Elimasi, Aziz Ben Rouha and Tyrese Ramsey

Held at the Somers Town Community Sports Centre in Chalton Street, Tyrese Ramsey caught the eye at 71kg as he gained a unanimous 5-0 win over Nana Asare-Donkor from Belvedere BC.

Aziz Ben Rouha looked equally impressive at 80kg as he beat All Stars Boxing Gym’s Ahmed Popoola 5-0, while Elliot Elimasi, who was boxing at 86kg, gained a 4-1 split-decision victory over Repton ABC’s Vasil Pilarski.
