St Mary’s and St Pancras Primary School’s Key Stage Two choir delighted holidaymakers and commuters last week with carols

PUPILS brought festive joy to commuters and tourists at Euston station last week, as local schools sung carols to fundraise for the women’s centre Hopscotch.

Returning to the site for the sixth year running, employees from the mayor’s chosen charity of the year Hopscotch shook buckets of change as school children sang Christmas classics to live piano.

On Thursday (December 15), Christchurch Primary School and St Mary’s and St Pancras Primary School sung Silent Night, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells while wearing Santa hats and shaking bells.

Hopscotch’s CEO Benaifer Bhandari told the New Journal: “I was overwhelmed at the generosity of travellers at this time of financial crisis for many. One kind gentleman gave us £40 and when I went over to give him my personal thanks, he gave another £40, which was so lovely.

We loved that so many people were interested in our work too, but that the majority just felt utterly uplifted by the children’s singing. Seeing joy, hearing little voices and experiencing such kindness; this is definitely a highlight of my year.”

St Mary’s and St Pancras headteacher Jules Belton said: “We love all things musical at St Mary’s and St Pancras. We invest a lot in music because it’s the ultimate inclusive subject. The partnership we have with the Camden Music Service means everything. I think Camden is the leading light for music in schools.”

The following day, choirs from schools Kentish Town Primary, Argyle, Robson House, Rhyl and Torriano sung to the crowds at Euston.

Mayor Nasim Ali said: “How lovely and generous people are even during these tough times when most people are suffering from the cost of living crisis.

I would like to thank all the amazing choir singing children and their wonderful teachers and parents for supporting them. It truly was an amazing experience and a very enjoyable one too.”
