SEVENTY firefighters tackled a major blaze in Chalk Farm Road.

The fire damaged first floor flats and part of the Louis Coca shoe shop, next to the Camden Assembly pub, and opposite the Stables Market.

Plumes of thick black smoke and flames could be seen coming from above the shop from just after midday.

The London Fire Brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a fire at flats above a shop on Chalk Farm Road in Camden.

“Part of the ground floor shop and most of a first-floor flat roof is alight. The Brigade was called at 12.07pm.

“Fire crews from Soho, West Hampstead, Paddington, Kentish Town and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.”

The LFB said that live stream footage had been relayed to the fire brigade by a passer-by on their phone using a new system called 999Eye.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
