Camden Sunday League side Acorn Youth FC celebrate winning the Bill Price Memorial Cup on penalties
IT took spot-kicks to settle the destination of the latest piece of silverware in the Camden Sunday League as Acorn Youth FC beat The Auld Shillelagh in the Bill Price Memorial Cup final.
Having already beaten Shillelagh 5-1 in the league this season, Acorn would have been forgiven for thinking that Sunday’s encounter, played on the Hackney Marsh South show pitch, was going to be a straightforward affair.
It proved anything but as the two teams played out a topsy-turvy 1-1 draw in normal time.
With extra-time then failing to separate the sides it was left to penalties, which ended with the Acorn players cheering in jubilation as they eked out a 5-4 win.
The story isn’t quite over, however, with the two sides set to meet again next month in the league, where Acorn will be looking to complete a hat-trick of wins over their Division One rivals.
